Untold Stories
Untold Stories is a multi-year, multi-tier alliance between AT&T and the Tribeca Festival that awards $1 million dollars, mentorship, and comprehensive support to underrepresented filmmakers to produce their films.
Each year at the Tribeca Festival, five talented and diverse filmmaking teams pitch their original feature scripted projects to an esteemed Greenlight Committee of industry professionals who decide the next $1 million dollar prize recipient. The 2022 winner, SMOKING TIGERS, was given production oversight from Tribeca Studios, and will premiere at the following year’s Tribeca Festival with first look at HBOMax.
The Untold Stories pitch event is live-streamed to millions from the Tribeca Festival. With 3 Million+ views to date, the livestream had a 3000% viewership increase from the previous year, with a 76% positivity rate from viewers

AT&T Untold Stories Announcement
Untold Stories works toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive world by amplifying authentic stories by filmmakers underepresented in the entertainment industry. This includes directors who are women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, with disabilities and beyond. Our team reviews hundreds of submissions, from an open call, to find five excellent finalist films. After selecting five finalists, we created dynamic profiles for each, using these assets to encourage tune-in to the livestream, and increase the visibility of these filmmakers with audiences.
2022 Filmmakers
Live-stream audiences also had the opportunity to further engage by voting for their Fan Favorite. The winner, UNDER THE LIGHTS, received an additional $40,000 in project support.
The program has so far given $5 Million given to winning underrepresented filmmakers, $200,000 in development funding to participants, and $80,000 in “fan favorite” awards to films chosen by live-stream viewers. There have been five completed and distributed feature length films from the program’s winners, and from over 40% of all pitching films since the beginning of the program. With the elevated platform from the live stream and the industry connections fostered, the Untold Stories program continues to uplift and empower the next generation of new voices in film.
